Get ready for a visceral, ritual folk journey at eyedrum on Thursday, November 13, as Ak’chamel the enigmatic Texas trio transforms our space into a sonic altar.
Few bands are as inscrutable as this mysterious group known for its countless cassettes, films, and full length records. Their live performances are immersive ceremonies: costumed in homespun robes and masks, wielding self made instruments, and conjuring ritualistic sounds that feel part ancient trance, part psychedelic folk.
Expect the unexpected. In past shows, audience baptisms, “soul auctions,” and acid tinged trance ceremonies have melded with deep drones, ritual chant, and theatrical physicality. Their music, described as “post colonial desert scorched psychedelia” and “dense religious fervor,” explores shadowy geographies, from Indonesian Indonesian flavors, morricone surf moments, to Middle Eastern chant, all bathed in a dusty, cinematic atmosphere.
